DESIGNING DIGITAL TOYS FOR CREATIVE KIDS

Creating a stimulating digital toy with the amazing new technology that has risen in popularity the last couple of years is both challenging and fun! We call our apps digital toys and not games because they are more closely related to toys than classic video games. Why? Because the classic video game framework, with its clear beginning and end, and the strict set of rules that leads the player to a fixed goal, can act limiting to a child's natural sense of creativity. A toy on the other hand opens up new possibilities without the limitations of these strict rules. You let the kid play the way they want to play.

OPEN-ENDED GAMEPLAY BOOST CREATIVITY

Most of our apps have what is called an open-ended gameplay and can be described as asandbox game. That means there are no specific beginning or end to the game and the goal of the game is not to go from point A to B. Instead, the goal is simply just to play and explore! This focuses on the child's natural sense of creativity to create their own stories and accomplishments. A lot of studies in these types of games have also shown to nurture decision and critical thinking skills, self awareness and creativity. So for us, it was an easy decision to make apps based in these theories!

PSYCHOLOGISTS USE IT

Interestingly, child psychologists and play therapists have used these open ended sandbox techniques for many years in their work with children. One common tool at a therapist's office is something called a sand tray. This is generally a small sandbox with a variety of characters and objects that allows the kids to describe the major relationships and events in their lives. This is considered to be a powerful way to help kids explore and articulate feelings about difficult issues.

GENDER NEUTRAL TOYS

The toy industry is one where gender stereotyping is both accepted and normalized. It is not uncommon to see science related toys only marketed at boys for example. What does that say to a science interested girl? All toy manufacturers, be they digital or not, have a responsibility towards the parents and kids to create products that are meant for kids and not genders!

All our products are gender neutral. We simply believe that all children, irrespective of gender, deserve to grow up reaching their full potential, rather than being unknowingly restricted by self perpetuating labels. So you will never see any gender specific Babyloonz products, nor will you find a princess in a pink dress waiting to be rescued by a handsome prince. What you will find is excellent products that boosts your child's creativity in a gender free environment!
